About

For now lets use this spot just to explain the name of the site.  The site name comes for the online alias I’ve gone by for around 11 years now.  This is the third such alias.  I started out my online career in the late 90s using Amiga Kid, because you guessed it I used Amiga’s.  If you don’t know what an Amiga is be sure to check out wikipedia. This was of course too much for people to type especially in my BBS days and was mostly shortened by everyone to AK.  Of course later everyone kept thinking it had something to do with the gun which was annoying hehe

Eventually I had to stop using Amigas as they commodore stopped supporting them and I moved on.  I felt like I had to change my alias at this point, especially because of the gun thing.  At that time I played a lot of FPS games.  The old Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Quake, Team Fortress days.  So I started going by BlueDeath, don’t ask me how I decided that it was kind of spur of the moment.  I went by this for years and years in game, forums, etc, even my bowling ball had it engraved on it.

So ya, I’m finally getting to the devmage part :)  About the time I started dating who was now my wife I thought well BlueDeath isn’t a very girl friendly alias, and well what if I want to have kids?  So I decided I needed to come up with something new.  I had been into Linux at that point for years, and was a system admin.  In unix based operating systems you have this area on the file system /dev/ where all the devices are kept.  Devmage is just a play on device mage, or in other words a gadget guy :)  I’ve always been good with technology it just comes natural to me, almost like magic so that is how I became devmage.  At that point I bought devmage.net, I had previously owned bluedeath.net for years.

I had never really used this domain, just as the base domain on my bluehost account.  Recently I thought it might be fun to use for a blog.
